Paranormal activities: personal experiences
77I have always accepted the fact that there are many things about this world that are unexplainable. Man has evolved, conquered, built, destroyed, and invented their way into mastering the forces that govern our planet. As intelligent as we are however, there is one realm we know little about, the spirit realm. Scholars, theologians, and scientist have their beliefs and opinions. However, that doesn't change the fact that there are phenomenons and occurrences that can make our hair stand on end. I'd like to share some of these instances that I have experienced myself.
In 1979 our family was stationed in Schweinfurt, West Germany. I was a young child, and was given chores to finish as a part of my routine. We lived in a housing area reserved for soldiers and their families in an area that saw extensive warfare during WWII. I was vacuuming in our dining room by myself. My mother had gone to the basement to use the communal wash area. In my dining room there was a dining table, and a macrame pot holder holding a planter. This was the middle of the day, and I was cleaning under the pot holder when something bizarre and frightening happened. As I was cleaning under under the planter, a dark shadow about three foot tall appeared in the pot. It looked like a black flame wearing a onesie that a child may wear. It stood up, jumped out of the plant and landed on the floor with a significant thud, loud enough to be heard over the vacuum. It then ran down the hallway and into my room. I was completely terrified, left the vacuum on, and slowly backed away until I ran into the front door. My mom entered, and asked me why is the vacuum on. She saw the look on my face and wanted to know what happened. I told her, and she went down the hall to look into my room. She said she saw nothing, but recognized that I saw something that scared me severely.
In 1986 I used to attend a christian youth group in Brandenburg, Kentucky. It was a full gospel group, and we always would have a prayer service on Wednesday nights. There was one night when there were only four of us in the church. It was during the daytime, and one of the four guys decided to give his heart to Christ. There was another guy and myself in the pews with our heads bowed down. At the alter was the youth minister and the guy getting saved. All of a sudden, I began to hear someone running. I looked up, and the peripheral part of my vision I saw a shadow running towards the door. It moved so fast that I was unable to catch it in my vision. It looked like a the shadow of a man in a black trench coat and a fedora style hat. The figure was moving so quickly that the coat was flowing behind it. At the back of the church were double doors, and they had the long handle that had to be pushed in order for it to open. These were heavy steel doors, and the figure hit the long handle hard and pushed the door open. My friend and I looked at each other, wondering who had the audacity to run out of a church during a service. Then I realized that everyone was still present, and that the figure that had run out may have been an evil spirit. I never told anyone about it until now.
Orbs amongst us
I had just bought a digital camera in 2008 and decided to take pictures. I took a picture of my Monte Carlo SS and the front yard in the fall of that year. When I looked at my pictures, I noticed something odd. I saw orbs in the pictures. On this day there was no wind, and no plants pollinating, not even ragweed. Yet, I saw orbs floating around. I didn't think anything about it.
For Halloween that year I decided to take pictures of my grand kids in the house. In a couple of those pictures, I had noticed the orbs as well. They are marked with the white rectangle. These pictures were taken in the first house my ex and I had bought. I remember hearing strange sounds when I was by myself there. One night as I was watching TV alone in the living room, I kept seeing a figure in the corner of my eye standing in the hall way. I told my granddaughter to go to sleep. The figure remained, and I got upset. So I got up to tell her to go to sleep, but all the doors to the bedrooms were closed. We have wooden floors, and they creak when walked upon. There was no creaking. Did I witness a ghost? Do these orbs have significance?
You tell me...

Interesting subject, Augustine. I have seen and heard things that are as unusual as these also, and have been plagued by nightmares of a spiritual nature. I have felt the presense of both good and evil when there was no physical to be seen. You are right, some of these things cannot be explained.
Thanks for sharing this thought-provoking hub about your personal paranormal experiences. This is a topic that has always fascinated me. I believe these kinds of experiences are real but at the present time, mostly inexplicable.
I've seen a lot of different explanations for orbs appearing in photos, some of them were supposedly scientific but I don't remember what the explanation was. I do occasionally see orbs in photos I've taken.
Anyway, thanks for sharing your experiences. It will be interesting to see what people write in the comments. Am voting this up, awesome and interesting.
I have seen things that kind of look like orbs when the sun hits a dust particle just right, even before taking the picture, and just by moving the camera slightly they disappeared.
I believe that you have seen things. It was just the orbs in the pics that I said may have been a dust particle.
It is not a benevolent spirit... just seems heavy and full of power...
Some paranormal phenomenon are simply projections of the brain, but of course they will not appear in pictures. The existence of creatures in different dimensions, is my idea of the paranormal. Interesting is the uniqueness of what you've seen. At the end of a discussion about the paranormal, I always end up with the fact that the average person utilize only 5% (?) of the capacity of his brain versus animals and insects can hear sounds humans cannot hear.... So who said some people are not using more brain (perhaps involuntary) and therefor they're able to see what others cannot see... Interesting hub, voted up and spine-chilling.
There are some terrible and hateful spirits around. Most people do not realize there is a spiritual battle going on all the time around us. Is it possible for these to come into our world? Yes. They are even talked about in the Bible. Jesus Himself cast out demons and devils from people. You have had some scary incidences. Some folks are more sensitive to them than others I suppose.

Thank you for sharing your chilling experiences with the extraordinary in your inimitable, succinct, telling ways!
Voted up, and also across all categories,

An interesting hub, Augustine, It has made me think, of course, and in reading comments of other hubbers, I feel that this has been (or would be, if I'm not too bloody lazy)) a springboard for a hub of my own.
Marked USEFUL, because it's (perhaps) a kick up my arse. and UP. or course.
Biscuits and gravy are piping hot and ready to enjoy. Yum!!!
Found your hub very interesting.
For the past ten years now every couple of months I will be standing in my kitchen and for no apparent reason I feel a cold breeze swish by me. I've been told that this is not a good thing to feel, however it does not scare me, but am curious as to what it actually is. I look forward to reading more of the comments people leave here.
The heart-beat went up a notch after reading that first experience AA. Thank you so very much for sharing here. That first apparition is just bizarre. Three feet, black flame and an audible thud- astounding, to say the least. And then the eye-vision angle in the church. Augustine this is an amazing write and story. My friend you probably know I've had similar events occur and although I rarely recommend reads to folk, and with-out getting into a long explanation...here's a low-cost, well-written and researched paper-back from last year that opened up a completely new perspective: The Vengeful Djjin is the title. King Solomon's power over them my very well have been a fact. Again, thanks for sharing Augustine, those orbs are very intriguing as well. Wow!
Geez, A.A., I don't know what i believe. I do know that you believe all the sightings you witnessed. My Grandmother, Minnie, believed in the paranormal. It always scared me when she talked about seeing ghosts. She believed in ' sightseers ' people who were able to see while others could not. Maybe you have that gift. I hope you will write about more if they occure. I enjoyed your hub very much..Thank you..
Wow, lots to think about in your Hub A.A...Who's to say that Ghost or Whatever they are don't appear...It's very real to the person experiencing it.
When my mother first past away, I had never really gotten to say "Goodbye"...Well i had the Dream, and in it there are two beds opposite each other and She and I are sitting holding hands and looking at one another. I know she is dead, so I carefully say, "Mom, what's it like on the other side"? She's replies, "Oh Bobbi, I just didn't know that I wouldn't be able to work". "Oh Mom" I sigh, "I miss you". " I miss you too" she answers, we hug, and then I wake up. I told my Aunt about it the next day, and she felt I really was with my Mother, who was a "workaholic" when she was alive...and would have said that. Good Hub A.A.
Damn, I live alone now and I knew I should have avoided reading anything about paranormal activity. I happened to see "Grimm" last night and it was scary, but in a way that could be possible.
Your experiences are very frightening. Since you do not seem to be a person given to hysterics, Augustine, it is enough to make me cower under the covers. I know that right after I had my daughter, I wasn't getting any sleep and I saw some things that truly frightened me, like a rat out of the corner of my peripheral vision. Lack of sleep, too much physical or emotional stress, even migraine's can play tricks on your eyes and mind. Then again, there are many mysteries that remain unexplainable. BOO! Is this a Halloween trick or treat?
AGUSTINE,
We all have a degree of sensitiveness to these activities. reminds me of tha series, One step beyond... Actually there were several times that a non physical being showed his/her movements around me...and some can be not that friendly. Voted booh up!!
LORD
I made home visits to an elderly patient several times a week for a long time and one day he told me that he'd heard footsteps in the upstairs bedroom the night before and it sounded like his wife's footsteps. "We used to sleep upstairs but I haven't been up there since she died. But last night, I'd swear she was up there again even though I know it can't be so." Then he talked about his wife and how much he still missed her and wanted to see her again when his own time to die came. He died peacefully in his sleep the very next night and those footsteps he'd heard seemed somehow related. I like to think she was in heaven and those footsteps were a way of saying she was up there waiting for him.
Wow, A.A., that does sound like a visit from beyond. Can see why it sent shivers down your Ex's spine.
..well first of all Augustine you have been a dear dear friend to me and a legendary supporter and I just left you a shout out on my latest hub .....
back in a bit
.....yes I have always loved your writing Augustine and I am laughing right now as I write to you - I am playing Cheap Trick live at Budokan motherfooking loud with some apple cider (spiked) ....well I've had a few hauntings myself so I found this provocative hub subject very very interesting and will post this essential paranormal hub to my FACEBOOK page (for all of my little monsters) with a direct link back here - and another favorite album of mine from the 80's is The Waterboys' Fisherman's Blues

Dear Augustine, Yes, you are entirely correct in the childbirth experience and rapid hormonal changes effecting state of mind. I had a traumatic, 36-hours of pitocin-induced labor and emergency C-section. My daughter was an 8-lb. baby and I went home after 4-days hospital stay. My ex immediately went back to work and I was crying when he left in the morning and crying when he got home, as he complained, but no offer of help ensued. Thinking back, I was exhausted and depressed, yet delirously happy about my perfect daughter. What I got from my ex was "you wanted the god dxxm kid, now shut up". Its no wonder I was seeing a "rat".
Actually, I had an auditory experience the morning my father died. It is too lengthy for comments, but suffice it to say, he spoke to me to say he was fine. My mom had the same thing happen earlier in the day of the night he died. It was not an illusion or delusion, it was real. Several other events have happened related to my father, always involving a clock, such as the first birthday following his death, the pendelum clock my parents gave me, stopped.
I believe these events do happen, probably often. Those, like you, who are sensitive, receive them. Those that are not plugged into what's going on around them, miss out or dismiss them as "a spot of mustard", indigestion, as Scrooge would say. And, even Scrooge eventually had to accept the reality that changed him forever!
Yeesh!
I sometimes wonder if certain "things" are attracted to certain folks.
I'm inclined to agree with you and Hyph on these incidents. But, as for the orbs, I think they're signs of paranormal activity in many cases, but not all. And, with your back ground of incidents, I'd say something was afoot, lol.
I loved Boomer's comment as well. Her relation of her pt hearing footsteps ... I couldn't help but smile and feel a warming in my heart over it.
I do plan to check out Alastar's suggested info as well. I think I'm supposed to because that's the second time I've seen the data suggested in a week, lol.
No conincidences in my world.
Whatever clothing an enemy wears, and whatever name it goes by, doesn't make it less an enemy - just makes it more recognizeable.
The inclusion of the visit to the cemetery with Skylar made for a charming inclusion, and a reminder that not all incidents are of the dark and negative sort, thankfully. :)
Wow August..lots of comments to follow. Of course I have my own thoughts about this..I think some people are more sensitive to the spirit relam than others..You must be one of those people..I do believe there is a light and darkside. It takes a bold person to play with the darkside..Asking for trouble I think..but if one is sensitive in nature, I think there is a chance you will see things from time to time..Great hub for sure. My mom has always been sensitive this way..I have had a couple things happen that are unexplainable but always pray for God's protection around my house and family. Some things just are..and one day maybe we will have the answers as to how all this works..
Love,
Sunnie
Dear AAZ,
I absolutely believe in the paranormal, the inexplicable. I believe we have connections to some people forever, even beyond death. I believe in premonition. I have seen this in practice in my personal life with Mom and clinical life in patient accounts similar to Gail's beautiful example...
You did a great and brave job broaching this with your examples, voted UP & Awesome to me, mar.
An interesting story.
They say that deceased people whom were very attached to things or people when they were alive remain attached to the same things or people even after their death. Their appearance of this phenomena in one form or another we call ghosts.
Wow what a chiller!!!!
I have only just read another poem in this theme and again I have to say that even though I do believe in the spirit world(Even more so since Erin's passing)I have nenver experienced anything like your experience.
Maybe as Sunnie says in her comment I am not as sensitive to the spirit world as you and many others.
However as I said I do strongly believe in the spirit world and thoroughly enjoyed thi gem and again i ahve to vote up up ad away.
Take care and have a great day.
Eiddwen.
Just had to stop by again to say "Thanks for Sharing"...We too lost a little friend who came to visit my youngest Son who was in school at the time. He wound up playing with another little boy who tossed a ball onto Route 44. The little fellow ran out, to get it. A car was coming, so he stood perfectly still on the white line. The motorist couldn't see him for the Sun was at that angle...He was killed instantly. He was only 4 years old. The other boy carried the guilt of what happened for the rest of his life. So very sad, that same road claimed so many young lives, we always wondered about it.
I am late here AA, been otherwise occupied comforting my sister in her loss.
But I am pleased I came to read this now. I believe evry word you've written because I too have experienced strange things. My son had a helish experience which you will see if you read my 'The Visit' hub. So I know just how frightened you would have been as a child at seeing the dark shadow in the pot and then it leaping out. You must have been terrified.
The shadow in the church, someone said it may have been an evil spirit leaving the man being blessed. is quite an acceptable explanation.
I guess some people are just more sensitive than others or as raciniwa told me that we have our 3rd eye open.
Thank you for sharing your experiences with us
This hub made it to the hottest hubs of the day list. Congratulations.
Hi A.A.
I remember when I was very young seeing the Bogey Man. I couldn't sleep and was singing. The Bogey Man appeared outside my bedroom window and said I am going to kill your mother and father. Maybe it was just a nightmare but my sister said she saw the bogeyman too.
Voted up and awesome.
wow that is something to actually have an experience such as that. I never have seen any paranormal activities, but I certainly have heard very unusal sounds when we lived in a house I grew up in. I also have felt spirits walk pass me. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Dear Augustine, I was trying to think whether anything of that kind happened to me - but my brain is overloaded and treats me to a horrible migraine.
I do believe in things that cannot be explained. It would be presumptuous to think that we know everything. We don't.
Your stories are spooky. I remember once being so frightened of death for no apparent reason. But the feeling was so intense... It happened last year around my birthday and I don't like Halloween anymore. I try to joke about it - but, frankly, it makes me think about nothing but death.
The flying brick story was also around my birthday, by the way. As one of my new tango friends put it - "It's your first bell. There are only three." I did not feel so great at that moment.
The only recent story
(and I am sure that by now everyone who made a comment told you plenty of their own) I heard of - was A.s - someone suddenly died in an apartment next to his. The death was strange. But then he (A., not the deceased, of course) said that the people who lived in that apartment kept feeling and hearing and seeing a ghost and every day there was a performance by cats & dogs - chorus started at around 11 a.m. Every day at the same time. I heard it - it was not pleasant.
He said he felt the presence as well. But... to say I believe it or not... besides I don't like to say I don't believe and challenge spirits (evil or otherwise) to prove me wrong.
My experiences are more coincidental - or when I feel a connection. I felt it this time and I thought - "It cannot be."
It only happened to me twice. But now I feel - how can I accept anything less? Does it even makes sense to accept anything less?
You know, the universe has a very strange sense of humour.
Hi A A,
Thanks for the comment,I look forward to reading your hubs for a long time to come.
Take care .
A.A. I came back to tell you about my Sister Eva's experience. Her husvand Lyle had stomach cancer, after a long stay in the hospital, he was released to a nursing home. He was terminal and was given only a short time to live. One evening Eva called him to tell him that she loved him and she would see him the next day. He told her he loved her too. They hung up the phone. My sister is paralyzed and sleeps in a hosp' bed that has a light above her bed. She said the light blinked twice, the phone rang, they told her that lyle had just passed away. She believed with all her heart that it was Lyle telling her goodby. She said that the light had never flickered before and they had lived there for years and it has never done it again. She believes he's in heaven waiting for her, she has no fear of death. She said, " Oh Ruby just think, he's waiting for me and i'll be able to walk again and he'll be well " What could i say to that? It made me cry, yet i felt happy for her, so i don't know if the light was a sign or malfunction in the bulb. I want to think it was him telling her goodby...
Augustine, I never knew your stepson was killed. I am so sorry to hear that.
Those dogs & cats were not that person's who died. I thought that maybe if one starts to howl, here you go, everybody chimes in. Even I... You know how cats can scream? Like little children or once I thought somebody was being killed...
In Russia, it is believed that the soul of the deceased leaves only on the 40th day - there is a wake - 40th day.
My aunt had a dog and the dog loved her and hated my uncle, the dog was terrified in fact of my uncle.
So, when my aunt died, the dog was devastated and he died on the 40th day precisely. It could have been a coincidence. But again, are there any coincidences?
I read about cats - there was a story about a retirement home, where a cat would come to spend the last days with the person who was about to die. It (he or she) was never wrong. I thought - maybe I'd rather not know that get that message, but sometimes we don't have a choice.
And for the record - I don't want to be in a retirement home.
But again, only once - I went to a friend's house and I had a migraine (big surprise! only that time it was so bad that I was lying down there, I just could not care less or handle it any better, I took the pills, but they are often powerless, once the migraine is already there) and what do I know? Her cat came to me and stayed until the migraine was gone. Completely. Of course, I grew attached to the cat immediately, but once the pain was gone, so was the cat. He/she had no intention of coming closer to me. I thought: "How strange!"
Hi AA
Like an ugly pirate with a beard is all I can remember. It was his voice that gave me the chills. My singing should have stopped him from popping by in the first place. lol
I find it strange that you question animals' empathy.
It is not even a question. Monkeys (which kind I don't remember) are capable of rescuing babies that are not their own or birds or some other animals - they take care of their mentally ill members (I found it fascinating...) - the understanding that the same standards cannot be applied to those who are sick and especially mentally sick.
I think we don't know enough.
There was a joke in one of my favourite books - there was a procedure offered - "to remove empathy forever, eliminate, a fellow human would be tortured in front of you and you will fill nothing." The character was tempted, but he did not go for it.
I am very high on empathy. Well, guilty as charged.
Sorry to break in here, Augustine, but I heard svetlana say, "And for the record - I don't want to be in a retirement home."
I think that perhaps she hasn't looked into the right sort of retirement home. I know of a very nice little place in Norbury-sur-Mer which would be so very willing to take you, Svetlana.
The Owner and Matron is a very good friend of mine. She is Mrs Hilda Plantagenet-Featheringstonehaugh, and the Home in question is Twilight Lawns plc, which is situated in Surrey, England.
All applications welcomed.
Ian, we talked about me visiting that place - the tanks, remember?
I was busy painting you as a violent character in my head, but I am sorry to admit that I have no time to write, which is a shame - I wanted to write about my love tango story and the dreams in colour and, of course, the trip to Italy - but right now certain someones are still stuck in a bathtub.
Cheerio,
I am a violent character in all respects. You have no idea how many old ladies I have despatched and buried at the back of the garden. Frequently my reasons were because they had put an apostrophe in the wrong place... or left it out.
I had no doubt about that. Ian - really, you cannot imagine how sorry I am that I have to attend to everything else in my life, but writing.
Really, dancing and writing (& pontificating) are my strongest passions.
If you saw that picture from my last day of tango you would agree - everybody saw it, the passion I mean, not the photograph.
It is easier to show in dance than in writing. People should be willing to read and I need a sponsor to give me an absolute freedom from thinking about anything else.
Maybe I should kill for money?
I am falling down - the bloody migraine!!!
There's nothing like a bit of dead animal to bring on the roses. When I lived in Perth, West Australia, it was the practice to bury half a sheep's head in the ground when one was planting a rose bush. Why half, I have no idea. maybe sheep's heads were at a premium. But it worked wonders!
Now, we just grab the nearest old lady who happens to be passing, and chop her up a bit; dig a bigger hole; plant the rose bush, Amazing results.
If this may sound a bit harsh, don't worry, sometimes there are the odd dead Old Birds lying around, and we use them instead. We do have feelings, you know.
@A.A.Zavala: If anyone reading my profile page, were to judge me from the topics of my hubs, Augustine, any such incidences of the paranormal, like psychic phenomenon, all occult and or mystical practices, extraterrestrial activity etcetera are certainly well within my realm, my friend.
There have been a few very interesting, quite unique and personal experiences that I may relate in my hubs in the near future, Sir. Lets just say that I've had my share for now!
Great Hub! Entertaining to someone with a background like myself, Augustine. Voted up, buttons pushed and comment completed. Regards Mike (Aka Professor M ) ;D
Oh my, Augustine..this very well written hub has caused a few goosebumps and hair raisings on my neck. These topics always do, especially the experiences you have mentioned... Orbs when researched identify with energy..what kinds of energy? positive or negative is undetectable..truly a fascinating topic here!!
Many things from the "other side" or paranormal have happened to me... it's creepy but after awhile it's just daily life :)!! Good job with Hub
Augustine, trick of the eyes can make us all believe that what we have glimpsed is real. I have been there too many times to remember. But, when you experience a smell that only you remember, maybe the beautiful perfume a loved one wore. Or the unique body smell of someone dear, then you have to stop and ask questions. I have been there so many times and comforted by it too. I remember staying with a friend at a very difficult time in my life, and just as I went to sleep I felt someone's hand brush my cheek. Freaked out or what. But, my friend told me not to be afraid it was her mother checking on me, and sending me comfort. Do I believe? Too right I do. Thank you for sharing your experiences and beliefs. x
Hi Augustine,..missing you
Good Morning, Augustine. I believe you experienced paranormal occurances. I really do. I cannot imagine that our world; ruled by 5 senses, is the one and only reality. No, I believe there is much more to this life; this existence. I, too, have felt and sensed energy/spirits/ethereal beings which are not tangible but observable...even if for that nanosecond of an instant. When one is quiet; when one is not mentally absorbed w/deep musings/considerings...I think we are open and able to perceive the parallel universe/soul/spirit of those who have passed, lives which exist along side ours...all the infinite possibilities which are apparently/obviously "there."
I so enjoyed reading about your visitations. I'm glad that you are able to entertain such possibilities...I think that there is such 'magic,' such miraculous truth just beyond our physical and grounded reach...and to have caught a glimpse of this is a gift...even if the being who/which is seen might be malevolent; that one can "see" is a way of protection as well as knowledge.
Really, discussing and thinking about this is infinite in potential and possibility...with one experience/one thought/one consideration and one "yes" leading to a limitless number of ideas and open doors.
Thank you! All ups (well, not funny...unless one thinks of peculiar!!) Kathy
PS..I, too, have photos w/orbs...pefectly rounded spheres of translucent light. A friend first pointed these out to me years ago and I can clearly see them. Amazing! I also believe in dream state which allows our mind to venture beyond the constraints of linear and limited thinking.
Hi Augustine! Well, I'm up in the wee hours (west coast time) and cannot sleep. And, here you are, awake during Central hours...2 ahead! Congratulations on your new promotion...I hope it represents just as you wish. And moving? Your life seems to be in the midst of changes, too. Well, what is life without change? Sure makes it exciting and wondering 'what's around the corner!' Good wishes to you.
Augustine..you are too kind and I so appreciate it...and I sure hope that "all fronts" calm down for you very soon. I understand the 'upset' of having a life in flux and turmoil..it seems, sometimes, that I'll never get to live a normal life (what is that, anyway??) I think I run on pure "fight or flight" energy, sometimes...adrenalin boosted and necessity driven...I have really missed writing; there are many ideas and topics bouncing around in my imagination but, for the life of me, I am having a very difficult time putting these thoughts into words to share. I think this is a time of change and upheaval for many of us...must be in the stars! Bless you and I pray that your life settles exactly as you would wish. Kathy (PS...right now, I'm not taking any vitamins or anything..maybe I should...hmmmmm)
AA, I am a firm believer of the paranormal. Very interesting article. I believe there is a lot of different things that are out there that really can't be explained at this point and time. However, technology is beginning to make it possible to catch the unexplained. I believe people that are able to witness such events have special gifts and powers per say. They say that spirits and others find people like this in means of hoping to communicate. You never know, you may have a gift. I always believe there is meaning behind encounters. For what, I am not sure. Votes up, useful, awesome, and interesting. I believe some mean no harm but there is evil out there. Great catch on the orbes. Looks like them for sure. Dust looks like snow. Great catch and great article.
Augustine, something happened to me tonight and even though I was gradually starting to believe - now I am sure. There is something ... the Universe ... whatever the word. Yes, I do believe.
My answer is say "YES" to your universe. Do not resist. You can try.
I am sure that the supernatural "unseen" exists and actually by many is "seen." People in other cultures around the world seem to "see" this realm more than our very scientific Western, world. I think in cultures where the supernatural is embraced as "real" it is seen more plainly. In the West, people tend to categorize the supernatural right along with myth, storytelling, or things that have some sort of "scientific" explanation. I happen to agree that there is a scientific explanation. The effects of the "things" are there because the "things" are there! People don't deny the science of gravity or the realness of wind--but it can't be "seen." Yet the effects can be observed. There are many out there (myself included) who have similar stories such as yourself. I thank you for writing about it to help people open up to the idea that there may be more out there than what our physical senses can pick up on. Very well written and voted up!
I think this is absolutely fascinating. Shortly after my my brother died weird things happened around me...two in fact...the TV kept turning on at weird times several days in a row. Then, one day I was looking out my second floor window at my pool and I saw water puddles forming my name on the pool cover. It was the oddest damn thing I ever saw in my life and I swear to God I had to blink and blink and blink to see if it was real or I was imagining it. Needless to say, neither have happened again, but I'll never forget it. Thanks for the hub!
I'm a big believer. Great stuff. There's so much more beyond what we see!
You sure have had your fair share of paranormal experiences, Augustine. Fascinating stuff! There's an awful lot about this world that we simply don't understand.
Nothing would excite me more than having a paranormal experience, but I would love to have a face to face, indisputable, clear encounter; some of the things you describe, like shadow or noises, are strange and unsettling sometimes, but also quite frugal, they don't really transcend because one can never be sure. Same with extraterrestrial encounters, a flying light doesn't do it for me but oh how it would be a thrill to actually have a tangible, obvious and undeniable communication exchange!
I know, skeptics are hard to convince even with hard evidence. Nevertheless, having the experience itself is what matters don't you think? Even if no one believes in it. I am referring to positive encounters and the enriching aspects I imagine coming from them. Paranormal could also be very pleasant and not necessarily scary.
Hi, I believe some of us are psychic and do see these things, what they are is a mystery, the one that intrigued me was the small one in the pot, but I believe the one in the church could have been a previous priest maybe in a rush in his ghostly form, the orbs I believe are just ionised particles that the eye cannot see, fascinating and scary! cheers nell
Wow, this is a very interesting hub indeed! As a Christian, I am very well aware that there is indeed a realm we're not completely privy to. I too have seen and felt what cannot be expressed through the human eye. Thank you so much for broaching such a controversial and interesting subject; I truly enjoyed it!
Read through the whole article. This was a breath taking experience for you. Must have been very frightening to witness this. Thanks for your contribution to ghostly studies. Your wealth of knowledge is admired.
What an terrific hub. There are some scary things that happen to us that are unexplainable. The paranormal is always so strange. Reality slips and the faint possibility of something beyond the ordinary appears, and can terrify us. Or baffle us. I had a few weird things happen to me, but I am objective and put things in perspective where I can. But then sometimes that isn't always possible.
What a great hub. I never believed in ghosts or spirits until I had a few things happen to me in New Orleans 10 years ago and then some more later on including a series of weird dreams that I had where I was being held down by something then woken up feeling that someone was playing with me (it always squeezed my leg when I finally woke up) my hub The Demon is about it. Those dreams were the most scary experiences I've had in my life. I also have had times where in my peripheral vision saw a man sitting at my old work which were weird. The orbs I heard are supposed to be spirits. Very interesting hub and great photos. Thanks for sharing!
We were also stationed in Germany, in Karlsruhe. One day I was doing my ironing and the apartment was empty. My Mom had also gone downstairs to the laudry. As I'm ironing I here someone say my name I turned to answer and no one was there. That was the only time anything happened there. With all the bombing and all the buildings that were bombed, who knows what had once stood where those buildings were and how many were killed.
Good hub.
I'm right there with you on this.
Don't worry though, there's always some sort of explanation that some science loving atheist can give....if it is ever applicable, the mistake such persons make is in thinking that the scientific method allows a human to observe or test all things....the most bunk and false pride filled notion imaginable.
I too believe in the world of the unexplained, such as a so-called spirit world. The evil side of it is much scarier than that of the good or the light. I think when one is stressed or down, the evil ones attempt to enter to distract and frighten us. When one is of a good heart, the more illuminate ones tend to protect us from such things. I am not saying the evil will still not try to disrupt our senses. To them it is a challenge to enter our otherwise safe world. Just my thoughts on it and not set in stone by any means. I just know when I am going through tougher times, the evil seems to settle in around me as if waiting to pounce. Then like one of your commentors here, I shoo it away with good thoughts and definatly lights. : )
I missed this one while my net was down! Christians see lots of things, in fact, seeing something unexplanable made me a Christian!!! I've had ultra violet orbs run me off the road, had water turn on by itself, multiple times, things flying accross the room, many times, Last winter, I could not sleep, and read the Bible, prayed, around tree AM, and all my lights in the bedroom and livingroom turned on! Only problem? All the switches were turned off!, So, I'm right there w/ ya buddy! It happens! lily
As a psychic, healer and medium, I can attest to your experiences, AA. The spiritual world or the next dimension the average person cannot see or hear, is real. I became psychic after surviving a plane crash many years ago. I know from my radio show, clients and studies, all you experienced is real and true. I am not Christian, I am human. There are over 3200 religions in the world. Religion is man made. Spirituality just is. And it IS real.
Very interesting hub I have had pearsonal experinces with spirits myself you kept my attion through out the artical great job writting this I enjoyed it.
Wow, what an interesting hub and I had a blast reading through all the comments. It's obvious that many of us have had experiences of the para-normal with all the stories here. I've written a few of my own here on the pages of hub. I really like what airtalker just wrote. It doesn't matter what religion or beliefs you have, some things just are. One of my hubs was about a man who lived in my apartment building (right below me)who died of lung cancer. His van could never go in reverse. After having a celebration of life for him at his favorite bar, my van would not go in reverse. I was diagnosed with lung cancer shortly after this. I truly believe he came to warn me so I didn't have to die like him. By the time he was diagnosed, he was stage four and there was no hope in a cure. His warning definitely helped me catch it in time to live. I was a stage three. We never got along well in life but he still had my back in death.
Augustine - I just realized this was your hub profile! Loved the hub. I'm not sure where I stand on belief. I know my hubs would suggest otherwise. I definitely believe there are evil spirits, but I'm not sure about average, random "ghosts" or "spirits". I read a book (How To Hunt Ghosts - A Practical Guide Book by Joshua P. Warren)while trying to research for Ghost of a Chance that discussed how everything is energy. It would stand to reason that when we are physically gone, there is some residual energy left over. Think about when people have been fighting and you walk in the room. They may pretend nothing is wrong and they are smiling, but you can feel a thickness in the air. Are you feeling the residual energy caused by built up emotions?
I have had one really frightening experience I may write about some day, but it still bothers me to talk about.
Voted up and sharing!
Thank you for sharing these! Fascinating hub. I love hearing other people's personal stories about the paranormal. It seems everyone has them, but many people are afraid to tell them. I'm so glad you told some of yours. Voted up!

There is much here between heaven and hell.... I have been haunted and stalked through most of my life by something that is blacker then night...I have to repel it with prayer and light several times. It has never come close enough to touch me, but I am aware anytime it is near. I will wake out of a dead sleep to feel it across the street. The last time I felt it I had been messing around with some spirit rocks I found in the yard. Our yard at the time contained many native artifacts and perhaps had been battle field. We found lots of arrowheads.
