Fellow hubber RueVera wrote a hub titled “Facebook and Soviet/Russian Animation (Cartoons) Era.” The hub was about animated children’s stories released during the era of the Soviet Union, and how they spoke to the positive attributes of childhood. One of the animated shorts in his hub was “Hedgehog in the Fog,” an endearing tale of friendship between a young hedgehog and a young bear cub. I invite you to visit his hub to learn more about this beautiful story.

The majority of Soviet cartoons were created by talented people and that's why the cartoons themselves were highly talented in their nature.

Privet (hello) my fishy friend, how nice it is to meet you.
You came to me in my time of need, when I fell into the water.
You took pity upon on my situation, and treated me like a brother.
You lifted me upon your bony back, and swam me out of harm’s way.
It is this act of kindness you should me, that allowed me live another day.
Now I am off to see my best friend, you know that he is a bear.
He is eagerly awaiting my arrival, and has some hot tea ready to share.
Together we count the stars at night, nibbling on our raspberry jam.
I cannot wait to tell him about you, and I know he will be as happy as I am.
The juniper twigs added to the fire, make it all smoky and bright.
Such a perfect way to end the journey, on such a clear and cold night.
Spasibo! (Thank You!)

What a wonderful story to start off my morning. Thanks! I enjoyed the video too. When I was little, I grew up reading a book about a squirrel named Squeaky and his many adventures. Reading your hub has brought back memories. Thanks again!!
A good children's story can stay with you your entire life. Thanks for telling us about this one.
An excellent reminder hub. I like Hedgehog animation a lot. I watched it some days ago. 'Detski Mir' (Children's world) is a TV channel that still telecasts very old animated serials and films. Russia has real classic animations for children. I watch Detski Mir every day. Great Hub!!!!!!! Voted up.
Ahhhh, AA! Thank you for sharing the story by RueVera. I probably would have never seen it which would be a loss. I find myself in agreement w/concern over childrens' programming content and how what could be perceived as negative images and sounds, etc. has escalated over time. And, of course, I LOVE to read...value this activity greatly! I love the poem...sweet, simple and something to be striving for...a delight in friendship and life. Lovely. Yours is the first "hubs by your favorite authors" one I've read today...a perfect way to start the day! Thank you. UP AWESOME Beautiful and there should be a Whimsical, too! Kathy (yes, you can call me Kathy or Kath..!)
So memorably sweet and heart-warming. The illustrations of the hedgehog are so adorably endearing. I would love to find a copy of an illustrated copy of this story. In fact, I'm going to research that now. I would personally like a copy and one as a gift for my BFF. Thank you, Augustine, for introducing me to such a powerful, beautiful, endearing story.
count the stars at night, and eating jam, just beautiful, and childlike, i adore this, thanks for a great morning, AA! lily
You know that "Hedgehog in Fog" even became an idiom - even though most of the time it means "clueless", but in a good, kind, compassionate way. It is very lyrical ...
just as your poem ... Maybe the secret is in its simplicity and kindness...
I saw a film recently that was even called "A Hedgehog came out of the fog..."
Certain things became classical...
Oh, what a nice surprise. Thank you for sharing the link to my hub here. I love your poem. Such a natural identification with a little Hedgehog.... Very sweet. Voted up.
Awwww, How sweet! Isn't it wonderful that children have good books while growing up. Loved your poetry. Thank you.
this was so nice and made me think of a song my grandmother used to sing to me as a child. Thanks so much.
....man oh man - I feel like a little boy again - and now you have inspired the epi-boy to come up with one of his own infamous animal tales - lol lol - this is truly a classic though and I love how you namechecked a fellow writer in reference and respect - that is the mark of a real decent person (which you are) and a very creative one too!
I found the hedgehog story to be so very charming and heartwarming and your poetry at the end provided the tip of the iceberg! Lovely Augustine
That is cute. I haven't heard of these characters. The beauty of the Internet is that we learn so many new things we wouldn't ordinarily know.
Beautiful as always. Like Pamela said. I love this characters. Thanks fir writing this and share with us. You got my vote. Have a nice weekend!

Cute! Hadn't heard of the story before now. Bookmarked and voted up. Thanks for letting us know about it! : )
I've had a hedgehog as a class pet. Not very animated. But that is OK. A nice quiet friend is always good!
A beautiful story and I loved watching the video clip you included. It brought me back memories of the kind of stories and animations I was brought up with. Very heart warming. Thank you.
This is a lovely story and hedgehogs are so amazing. Sadly there are not many wild hedgehogs left where I live so I hardly see them anymore. Thanks for this beautiful hub and for sharing the story in the great way you did!
Tina

I have many Spasibo's in my life - strangers who came to me in a time of need to help me back on my tracks, and I will always be greatful to them. You've told this endearing story amazingly sweet in the format of a poem. On my way now to read RueVera's hub.

AA Zavala: What a graceful, gracious poetic summation of an eventful day in the lives of a hedgehog, a fish and a bear! The imagery is evocative, the philosophy charming, the rhyme scheme musical and the words flowing.
Thank you for sharing your poetic genius, voted up, etc.,
Derdriu
P.S. Thank you for the link: I read the article and left an appreciative comment along with voting up, etc.
Good day Augustine ~ I showed this little film to my network a couple of years ago. You found a gem to show to the Hubpages community and share your thoughts. Your poetry exquisite. Simply lovely, Debby
I came back again to re-read your warm poem, it is so nice.... and thank you for giving me the credit again. However, your hub promotes the cartoon more. The more people will watch the cartoon, the more kind they'll become.
